The finishes were designed by an interior designer and featured bespoke details. The comprehensive refurbishment involved power modifications, new kitchen, new solid and glazed partitioning, new flooring, modifications to the lighting, fire alarm and ventilation systems, new timber cladding and bespoke acoustic screens....

The Frankland Building Music Facility

Client: University of Birmingham, Estates. Programme: 56 weeks Value: £8.5 Million Full refurbishment of an early 1900’s building, ‘The Frankland Building’ to create music and teaching spaces with ancillary office spaces throughout, along with staff and student break out areas. Also included in the scheme was the demolition and re-construction of a single storey Annex building which was linked to the existing building. The Annex consisted of music rooms, recording studios and office space with kitchenette. Works to the existing building comprise of full strip out, new MEP installations, walls, partitions, floor finishes and specialist acoustic fit-out to the ground and first floors. Partial fitout of the 1st floor carried out in two phases, to enable the client to take partial occupation of one wing of the floor. Fast track programme works including power and containment, lighting, HVAC, Partitions, new kitchen and tea point, ceilings, flooring, decorations....

Birmingham City University;
University House

Value: £2m Sector: Education The project involved working on floor levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the University House. The scope was for a full refit to be carried out in an existing building whilst the ground floor remained occupied. The works were carried out over 4 floors and included the construction of meeting rooms on floors 1, 2 and 3 together with a suite of offices and a boardroom on the 4th level for the universities Directorate. New wall, floor and ceiling finishes were completed throughout. Electrical and IT works included the installation of a new Cat 6 data network, alterations to the existing controlled access system, modifications to the existing lift saving systems, small power and lighting alterations. Mechanically adaptations were carried out to the existing venting systems, installation of new air conditioning to all meeting rooms and the refurbishment of all WC's within the building....

University of Birmingham; Learning Centre

Value: £1.3m Sector: Education The fit out of the Learning Centre at the University of Birmingham involved an accelerated programme in order to complete within the Clients timescales. The project included a full M&E reconfiguration together with an extensive list of additional aspects of work; new bespoke staircase formed through the atrium; structural glazed balustrading to atrium surround and new staircase; ceramic tiling finishes to floors and walls; design and installation of bespoke joinery including structural totem centrepiece through the atrium; general finishes including new flooring, suspended ceilings and decorations. As well as the list above, GTH formed an extension to the front elevation to create a new cafe area. The project was completed on time and within budget....

University of Birmingham; Collaborative Teaching Laboratory

Value: £3m Sector: Education The design, construction and remodeling to existing Mechanical and Civil Engineering Building at the University of Birmingham over 3 phases. The project was secured on a single stage tender basis, and on a Design and Build format. A full M&E strip out, design and new installation was carried out, based on the Clients scope and design meetings. Following that, we were instructed to complete the following works:- Fabricate and install new new mezzanine levels in different areas, complete with new bespoke balustrading, new wall linings and suspended ceilings throughout, two new automated rooflights, new external windows and doorsets, bespoke furniture including laboratory installations, movable furniture and break out areas, resin floor finishes, general finishes and decorations throughout....

Robert Aitken Building

Value: £1.6m Sector: Education Approached by the University of Birmingham to tender the fit out of the 2nd Floor at their Medical School, we secured this project on a single stage tender basis. The works involved a full M&E installation, followed by a new window installation throughout, curved internal glazed screens, laboratory furniture installation, new suspended ceilings, floor coverings and decorations. Bespoke furniture items were then designed and installed to complete break out areas. The project was complex by its extreme access restrictions; our site entry was through a second floor opening in the external wall that we had to form. However, the project was completed on time, within budget, and with no issues from the existing users or neighbouring properties....

Glancy Nicholls; The Engine Room

Value: £300,000 Sector: Commercial The project involved the fit out of a Grade II listed building within Birmingham city centre to accommodate an Architectural practice who were relocating. The works included a full M&E installation, shot blasting of existing feature beams, walls and steelwork, new mezzanine and staircase, wall linings and feature ceilings throughout. WC and kitchen installations and finishes to the new tenants specification. The project was completed on time, within budget, and more importantly, to the extremely high standards set by the Architects who were also the new tenants....

University of Worcester; The Riverside

Value: £2.4m Sector: Education The refurbishment and re-ordering of an existing car showroom to provide a new sports and dance teaching facility. Works included the renewal of sections of the roof and re-cladding of areas of the external envelope with replacement of glazed curtain walling and entrance doors. Internal remodeling consisted of new M&E installation including new plant room. Extensive internal works to form new teaching and performance areas, offices, toilet facilities and new internal bar/cafe....

University of Birmingham; Shackleton Hall

Value: £1.9m Sector: Education The refurbishment of existing kitchens and bar facilities within Shackleton Hall together with associated external works. The existing Ground Floor and Lower Ground Floor were completely refurbished involving the demolition and removal of the existing kitchen, canteen, bar and restaurant facilities. Internal walls were erected with new wall, floor and ceiling finishes throughout together with new catering kitchen and bar installed and the complete area fitted out with contractor designed furniture, fixtures and fittings. Full M&E refurbishment and replacement was also undertaken during the contract. The whole project was undertaken within the contract period of 12 weeks despite numerous variations being required....
