Project Name: Gisbert Kapp Building Client: UOB Project Type: Internal Education Refurbishment of 5 floors Project Value: £6 million Contract: Design and Build Project Overview: Full Strip out and refurb of 5 floors at the Gisbert Kapp Building on the UOB campus, this entailed fitting out new labourites for the Psychology department, New Teaching Rooms and Meeting/Conference rooms with all acoustic panelling installed, New tea points on all floors with high quality finishes and feature green walls. A gym area was installed, massage along with treatment rooms for the sports science department. Also included the refurbishment of the toilets on the top floors and fully new Unisex toilets installed on the 1st and 2nd Floors. We also created new Fire holding lobbies to comply with the new Fire strategy for the building which included all Firestopping throughout the building which was undertaken to full certification to BMTRADA standards....

University of Birmingham Bioscience Building

Client: University of Birmingham Project Type: Educational Laboratory fit out Project Value: £700,000 Project Overview: Project planning and co-ordination were key to the success of this project. The end goal was to accommodate the students return and be able to occupy the teaching laboratory on the 2nd floor that is connected, via a bridge link to the New CLS Building. In order to achieve this, some enabling works had to occur as follows; The I.T. room on the 8th Floor was converted to a laboratory that moved from the 5th floor housing a Mass spectrometer, extremely sensitive to temperature change and therefore three new air-conditioning and ventilation units were installed along with full refurbishment of floors, walls, electrics and laboratory grade benching. The 5th floor was converted to house the autoclave machines and fly food mixers that were on the second floor, again as a full refurbishment incorporating the creation of two new rooms and altering all electrical and mechanical ventilation. A new electrical cable to support the capacity of four autoclaves from a new distribution board was pulled in to the main distribution board. University of Birmingham Mechanical Engineering Building

Client: University of Birmingham Project Type: Educational fit out Project Value: £530,000 Project Overview: A general refurbishment of an Engineering teaching area with logistical difficulties. Valuable heavy equipment that carries out repetitive testing to destruction of joint replacement components needed to be moved from a basement room to the first floor of, one of the oldest buildings at the University. The room needed to be fitted out with upgraded electrics, data and fire detection systems. A new steel platform to take the weight was introduced and new floor coverings and decoration were carried out prior to the roof being removed and the equipment craned in through the opening. University of Birmingham Research Park

Client: University of Birmingham Project Type: Commercial Office fit-out of 1 floor offices Project Value: £285,000 Project Overview: The project involved the comprehensive refurbishment of office space for the Research Park Management team, including modifications to the office layout and upgrades to lighting, small power, data, and fire detection systems. The installation of a new, modern tea point and breakout area were introduced and acoustic wall panels, fixtures and fitting were strategically placed to create different zones that would not negatively impact other working areas, whilst maintaining an “open plan” feel. Lucas House and Priorsfield, University of Birmingham

Client: University of Birmingham Project Type: Interior Building refurbishments for Educational and Commercial use. Project Value: £3million Contract: Design and Build Project Overview Priorsfield is a listed building used for teaching as part of the Birmingham International Academy. Works involved reconfiguring of teaching spaces and complete internal refurbishment including; mechanical, electrical, flooring, new toilets and general finishes throughout. All were designed and carried out to be in-keeping with the architectural history and style of the building. The designs were consulted and approved by English Heritage and the UOB. Lucas House, previously a hotel, was refurbished to form teaching spaces and offices for BIA. This included: new lighting, power, doors and windows, decorations and flooring, new lift install, new roof covering and hand rails, re-pointing of the building, new front auto doors and Internal partitioning. New Toilets and acoustic baffles were also installed as additions to the project. The project was delivered on time and within budget to the great satisfaction and high praise from the client....

The Frankland Building Music Facility

Client: University of Birmingham, Estates. Programme: 56 weeks Value: £8.5 Million Full refurbishment of an early 1900’s building, ‘The Frankland Building’ to create music and teaching spaces with ancillary office spaces throughout, along with staff and student break out areas. Also included in the scheme was the demolition and re-construction of a single storey Annex building which was linked to the existing building. The Annex consisted of music rooms, recording studios and office space with kitchenette. Works to the existing building comprise of full strip out, new MEP installations, walls, partitions, floor finishes and specialist acoustic fit-out to the ground and first floors. The building also received a new passenger lift and new windows on the 4th floor North and South elevations. ...

University House

Value: £2m Sector: Education The project involved working on floor levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the University House. The scope was for a full refit to be carried out in an existing building whilst the ground floor remained occupied. The works were carried out over 4 floors and included the construction of meeting rooms on floors 1, 2 and 3 together with a suite of offices and a boardroom on the 4th level for the universities Directorate. New wall, floor and ceiling finishes were completed throughout. Electrical and IT works included the installation of a new Cat 6 data network, alterations to the existing controlled access system, modifications to the existing lift saving systems, small power and lighting alterations. Mechanically adaptations were carried out to the existing venting systems, installation of new air conditioning to all meeting rooms and the refurbishment of all WC's within the building....
